How in the world do you calculate and display an account’s equity curve?
I am racing three bots with different parameters to see which one is more profitable and I have witnessed very many discrepancies in the equity graph displayed in the dashboard.
This happens too many times to provide screenshots, so I have prepared a list of witnessed abnormal behaviour:
Multiple times my portfolio which I have started at $100,000 gains another $100K which is then removed.
My portfolio profit will touch +X% growth but when scanning the time and date it got there it has disappeared and not been recorded. Like it has been smoothed out.
Every morning between US close and EU open (Asia-pac hours?)I randomly lose about 2% profit that fortunately is restored upon EU open.
I suspect you are using a curve fitting algorithm that is erroneous.
All, I want is you to accurately record my equity and save it over time. Nothing ‘clever’ just honest records.
Why is this happening and can you please fix it, it really is very poor.
Luckily my reported equity is always accurate. It is just the lookback that has lost the plot/plotting.
@ma77wi11iam5 The issue you are seeing with odd equity numbers is that each of your accounts is holding one or more ‘inactive’ positions—for example, MRUS. Merus (MRUS) was acquired by Genmab on December 30, 2025 and is therefore no longer tradable.
Currently, paper accounts are not adjusted for corporate actions such as mergers and stock splits. For delisted or inactive symbols, they remain in the account but cannot be traded. They also do not have price data associated with them. The lack of price data is causing the equity in these paper accounts to be calculated incorrectly.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a good workaround for this. The simplest fix is to delete the account and create a new one. Understandably, that may not be the best solution. If you can identify the inactive symbols, Alpaca support may be able to manually remove the positions from your accounts. This isn’t always possible, but if creating a new account isn’t a good option, send an email to support@alpaca.markets and include a list of symbols you would like deleted and the associated paper account numbers.
Hi Dan, I’m just trading SPY options and experiencing the same issue - divergence between equity and graph. Equity says down -7%, graph says up 9%, paper account.
