You bug "us_equity orders not allowed for account" caused huge losses today

Trades are blocked via the dashboard as well as API, TradingView connector is also not working any more on my account.

All I did was activate SMS 2FA then Trading View stopped working so I disabled it and realized API is not working either.

This bug has previously been posted by someone else in May but apparently never been fixed

No response from support email either, its been 1.5 hours now

I also got this error today in submitting a market buy order

Status Code: 422, Status Message: “Unprocessable Entity”, API Response Code: 40010001, API Response Message: “us_equity orders not allowed for account”

Alpaca is highly unreliable company to do algo trading…

plus they dont care and reply back with solutions. Move to Charles Swab

@Andy_S Is this for a paper or live account? If it’s a paper account, the issue typically is the paper account has been reset but the API keys were not regenerated. If one tries to use old keys they actually point to the old paper account which is not ‘active’. Therefore, one cannot submit orders to it.

Could that be the case?

Hi Dan,

That was not the case, it happened in the middle of the day, I had not reset the account. Usually after resetting if you forgot to regenerate the fresh keys, you will get API error message : forbidden.

@Andy_S Are you still interested in tracking down the issue why you received the “us_equity orders not allowed for account” error? I can check the logs if you provide the account number or more information on the order(s) you tried to place.
