What does "New" order status mean for orders?

Environment

I’m running this in python 3.

Problem

Summary
If I make a limit buy order for a stock at say $6.00 and it goes through to my alpaca portfolio and it’s status is “new”, and then the stock rises to say $7.00. Is my order just going sit there until the stock comes back down to $6.00? Or will it be filled at $6.00 regardless because it just needs more time to fill?

Paper or Live Tradng?
I’m using the paper trading API.

“new” means the order is active in the market. Limit buy waits until the prices goes below or equal to your limit price.
