Paper account position removed with no order, fill, or corporate action during nightly processing

Hello,

A long GLD position (1 share) disappeared from my paper account during the night of Aug 27→28 (between 07:28 and 07:33 UTC), with no sell order, no fill, and no cash credit. Equity dropped by the position’s full value, $422.60.

This matches a defect other users have reported on your forum (topic 19542, “Positions disappear issue”).

Request: please investigate and restore the account equity by +$422.60.

I can provide order IDs or API outputs if you need them for the investigation.

Thank you.

UPDATE RESOLVED. Posting a follow-up for anyone watching this thread: after my report here (and a parallel post on Reddit), the missing position was restored by Alpaca roughly 12 hours later the share was re-credited to the account with the cost basis adjusted, no action needed on my side. Two things worth noting for anyone hitting this:

  1. Verify with the API, not the dashboard compare GET /v2/positions against your own records before assuming a fill happened. In my case there was no sell order, no fill, and no cash movement the position simply vanished and later reappeared.
  2. Report it publicly the restoration came after this thread and the Reddit post made the pattern visible. Silent defects stay silent defects. Thank you to the team for the fix. If you can share a root-cause note (what in the paper engine caused positions to be dropped during nightly processing), it would help everyone who trades through the nightly window trust the environment again. Marking this resolved on my side.

I am experiencing a similar issue. I have contacted support. There seems to be an ongoing underlying issue that is causing accounts to silently drop holdings in overnight processing.
