so i started paper trading and one of my positions say i have -150 stocks. how? why?
A negative position means you hold that many shares ‘short’. To short a position simply place a sell order when you have either no position or an existing short position. To close out a short (ie negative position) simply buy that amount of shares to bring the value to zero.
You probably placed a sell order for 150 shares when you didn’t have any shares to sell. So, the system inferred you wanted to short that many shares.
If you don’t ever want to short there is an account setting to restrict an account for long only.
