Inaccurate account portfolio_value and/or cash on web interface, and now API too!

Environment

(applies to web interface and API calls)

Problem

(live trading)

I often observe discrepancies between the portfolio values displayed on the web interface graphic
(chrome browser) and the actual amounts. Usually about a $3000 difference, for whatever reason.

Tonight everything flaked and a lot of my $cash simply disappeared from the displayed values on the web interface, API calls, and the phone app. Not blank. Just a lot less than the true amount. The problem was temporary, but it’s always unnerving.

Please, Alpaca, make account information calls rock solid. I love the Alpaca concept, but if your customers are googling “SIPC insurance” while waiting for your site to recover, something’s amiss.

Good point! I also meant to ask, is Alpaca a member of SIPC?

I also observed same discrepancies today (Feb 03). Also, in the morning, the equity shown in the web interface is some 10-30% below the actual value (observed every trading day over the last few months).

Taken from a response to General Questions:
"Yes, Alpaca is a member of SIPC (Securities Investor Protection Corporation). SIPC protects against the loss of cash and securities held by a customer up to $500,000, which includes a $250,000 limit for cash. SIPC does not protect you for any decline in the value of your securities.

For additional details, please visit www.sipc.org"

Thank you, that’s great (about SIPC). To illustrate my point made above about wrong equity numbers in the morning of each and every trading day, here’s a screenshot just made (Feb 04 at 9:05 am EST). Note that the popup box on the graph shows a number ($49k) almost twice as large as the actual correct equity shown above the graph ($28k). Later in the day the legend box on the graph will become accurate. Why they use two very much different data sources to show the same balance, is beyond my understanding.

That difference is wild. I experience a similar phenomenon, but smaller and in the opposite direction.
