Streamed News Articles Don't Make It To The Historical API

So … why do articles sometimes come across the stream feed but then never appear in the historical data?

For example, RXO on 6/24/2024 … an article came across the socket feed at 7:28 with a headline “RXO shares are trading higher after the company announced that it will acquire Coyote Logistics from UPS.” But, this article does not appear when you query the API.

I’ve seen this happen before. Why?

I’m seeing other instances of this happening on 6/24/2004 now that I am looking … seems like the omitted news articles all contain the words “are trading higher”.

DMRC article at 7:19
CNK article at 7:19

Is this something Alpaca is doing? Or Benzinga?

It isn’t really helpful if the stream doesn’t match the historical data without some kind of record somewhere saying you’re going to omit this information and why. Backtesting sad…

@wonkypaca The historical news should exactly match the streamed news.

In your example

RXO, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="RXO (NYSE:RXO) Stock Quotes, Forecast and News Summary - Benzinga”>RXO) shares are trading higher after the company inked a definitive agreement to acquire Coyote Logistics from United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="United Parcel Service (NYSE:UPS) Stock Quotes, Forecast and News Summary - Benzinga”>UPS) <a target="_blank" href="RXO To Acquire Coyote Logistics From UPS - RXO (NYSE:RXO) - Benzinga" rel="noreferrer noopener">for $1.025 billion in cash.

\n\n\n\n

As per the terms, the transaction disclosed on Sunday will be financed through a combination of equity and debt, including a $300 million equity investment from MFN Partners and a $250 million equity investment from Orbis Investments, both significant shareholders of RXO.

\n\n\n\n

RXO will maintain its role in fulfilling UPS’s brokered transportation requirements under an existing contract valid until January 2030.

\n\n\n\n

This acquisition is expected to bolster RXO’s market standing, broaden its customer base, and expand its network of carriers.

\n\n\n\n

RXO’s Board of Directors has unanimously approved the transaction, which is expected to be finalized by the end of 2024 subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

\n\n\n\n

Upon deal closure, RXO is set to become the third-largest provider of brokered transportation services in North America.

\n\n\n\n

The transaction is anticipated to immediately and substantially enhance RXO’s adjusted EPS and adjusted free cash flow.

\n\n\n\n

In 2023, the acquired business generated around $3.2 billion in revenue, with around $470 million in gross margin and about $86 million in adjusted EBITDA.

\n\n\n\n

Outlook: RXO maintains its outlook for the second quarter adjusted EBITDA of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance\" rel="noreferrer noopener">$24 million to $30 million.

\n\n\n\n

RXO anticipates achieving annualized cost synergies of at least $25 million from the buyout.

\n\n\n\n

Drew Wilkerson, chief executive officer of RXO said, “RXO will realize significant synergies from the acquisition by quickly integrating Coyote’s business into RXO and leveraging our cutting-edge technology. The addition of Coyote’s customer base will diversify RXO’s vertical mix and will increase the number of customers that do more than $1 million in business with us by approximately 80%.”

\n\n\n\n

UPS Chief Executive Officer Carol B. Tomé commented, “As UPS positions itself to become the premium small package provider and logistics partner in the world, the decision to sell our Coyote Logistics business allows an even <a target="_blank" href="UPS Announces Sale of Coyote Logistics to RXO, Inc. - United Parcel Service (NYSE:UPS) - Benzinga" rel="noreferrer noopener">greater focus on our core business.”

\n\n\n\n

Upon completion of the transaction, UPS plans to update its financial outlook.

\n\n\n\n

As of March 31, 2024, RXO’s cash and<a target="_blank" href="RXO Announces First-Quarter Results, Including Double-Digit Brokerage Volume Growth for Fourth-Consecutive Quarter - RXO (NYSE:RXO) - Benzinga" rel="noreferrer noopener"> cash equivalents stood at $7 million.

\n\n\n\n

Investors can gain exposure to RXO via Motley Fool Small-Cap Growth ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="Motley Fool Small-Cap Growth ETF (BATS:TMFS) Quotes, Forecast and News Summary - Benzinga“>TMFS).

\n\n\n\n

Price Action: RXO shares are up 13.8% at $23.00 premarket at the last check Monday.

But you are correct. None have a time stamp you mentioned. Both the streamed data and the historical data are fetched directly from Benzinga so perhaps it’s some issue with what they stream?

Confirmation is good, but, now what? I can’t exactly question Benzinga on behalf of Alpaca regarding the integrity of their data. It would be nice for someone to either a) fix the data or b) provide the rules so that filters can be applied which make the data sources match after the fact. Will anyone follow this up? I could probably guess at it … but then one day something changes, and I’m filtering data that no longer needs to be filtered, or vice versa. Not preferred.
