Some brokerages support automated dividend reinvestments as fractional shares (DRIP).
It would be very helpful for Alpaca to support this, because it would reduce the gap in performance between reality and backtesting for algorithmic trading strategies backtested against adjusted close data, which already factors in dividend reinvestment.
