Asset ‘TQQQ’ cannot be sold short

This morning I was unable to short TQQQ, which is a stock I short regularly. Was there a problem with the ETB list again today? I found a thread from from 2023 that mentions that as the cause.

Asset 'SPY' cannot be sold short

This morning I was unable to short SPY, which I use as a hedge against many of my short positions. Out of any stock, this is one that I’d expect to have the easiest time being able to short. Can I not expect that SPY will be available to short each day? What causes something like this to be unable to be shorted?

This is still happening today (3/26/2026). Does anyone from Alpaca support know why this is happening?
